Diabetes Center Berne
Open Innovation Challenge.

A total of 200,000 Swiss francs in prize money was awarded at the DCB Open Innovation Challenge of the
Diabetes Center Berne. We designed the show together with the DCB, implemented the stage and technology on site from A to Z and streamed it to the rest of the world.

Together with Christian Wäfler from Glow, Tonino Belsito from Emni Multimedia and Fabian Küng from Küng Lichttechnik, our partners for stage construction and technology, we designed a stage setting that fit perfectly into the atrium in the sitem-insel building, into which we immediately integrated the floating staircase in the high room, for example for the screen hanging freely in space.

REMOTE PITCHES FROM THE USA AND NORWAY

The script designed by DCB and refined by us provided for a total of five pitches from international startups, one of them remote from the USA. Due to a cancelled flight, a second pitch also had to take place remotely at short notice, so we added another speaker, this time from Norway.

Four of the international, nine-member jury were on site in Bern, the remaining five were connected from all over the world. In the jury room, the jury members were always connected to each other via video and audio in order to debate the pitches together. The jury was regularly connected live to the stage to ask questions to the presenters – whether on-site or remotely connected. The pitches were framed by keynotes, video clips and discussion rounds.

13-PERSON TEAM, 2 DAYS, 1 WINNING TEAM

Newsroom Communication was on site with a total of 13 people: a production manager, a two-person technical management team, a director for the livestream, a director for the feeds, two cameramen, a sound technician, a lighting technician, a stage builder, a make-up artist, a photographer and a cameraman for the highlights. Set-up, rehearsals, show and dismantling took place within 2 days.

By the way, the 100,000 francs prize money went to Norway. The efforts made at short notice were definitely worth it.
